Spectre DB10 Subwoofer

Designed with the same slim cabinet and same profile as the DB10, the DB10 SUB allows the sound designer to build a “Wall” of front cinema speakers. Featuring two 200×200 VESA mounting points, the subwoofer can be installed vertically and horizontally, both behind screen and further within the room. A heavy duty, hand built 10” Sub bass driver with a high linear excursion features a double stacked magnet system. The driver is an improved version of a design once used in a famous studio range of British active subwoofers. This driver along with the transmission line low noise flared port results in an efficient, high SPL design with a response down to low 20Hz region. When used in an array configuration with multiple front subwoofers, both a higher SPL and lower response curve can be achieved.

Driver Design

Designed and built by hand at the Volt Loudspeaker factory in Dorset, the 10” Sub driver is probably one of the best in the world. It is an improved modern version of the driver once used in the flagship model of a famous range of British active subwoofers. This upgraded version uses a vented symmetrical field magnet system with an exceptional long voice coil for large linear excursion capability. Suspension stiffness and excursion is optimised for tight control over high power transients.

Cabinet Design

The DB10 SUB is a passive bass reflex design subwoofer designed for use in multiples behind an acoustic projection screen or horizontally below conventional screens. It features a specialist 10″ driver and long fluted port arrangement. It is a high efficiency design and can be powered by 300w RMS amplification. It is designed to work primarily with the DB10 main LCR cinema speaker.

Better bass production from multiple units

A single DB10 subwoofer will create more than enough low frequency at a high enough SPL for most installation requirements. For optimal performance in larger rooms and to balance correctly with the high output DB10’s, multiple units are used.

Using multiple DB10 SUB’s has some distinct advantages over a single larger subwoofer. Multiple subwoofers will greatly increase system headroom, eliminating distortion, providing greater dynamic range and reducing output compression. When arranged in the suggested screen array design the respective modal patterns of the subwoofers will overlap, increasing the sound wave density within the room. This multiple subwoofer configuration produces a smoother response curve over a larger listening area, reducing peak and null points within the frequency curve.

Drive Unit

A heavy duty, British built 10″ Sub bass driver with a high linear excursion. Features a double stacked magnet system, heavy doped cone with a large
rubber surround and rigid dust cap.
